World War 2 Museum Room
Below you will see some examples of real World War 2 Artefacts.
Clothing Book
The Merchant Navy were the fleet of ships that transported food and supplies to the United Kingdom during WW2. With this book of tickets, a seaman could buy all the clothes he needed.
Dried Eggs
During the war, people were only allowed to buy one fresh egg a week. The rest of the time, they had to cook and eat dried eggs from America. Egg rationing did not end until 8 years after the war had ended.
Gas Mask
This gas mask was made in 1938 and came in a leather case. During the war, people thought that German forces would use chemical weapons on the United Kingdom. Everyone had their own gas mask.
Headlamp Shield
On September the 1st 1939, Britain was blacked out and lights had to be hidden. Cars and buses had to put these shields on their lights. This did lead to accidents so many people stopped travelling at night.
Plaque
This plaque was awarded to Newcastle in 1944 for raising lots of money to help with the war. They had a 'Salute Soldiers Week' which raised money for equipment and clothing for local soldiers.
Radar Machine
This was used during the war on ships and was useful for helping them detect things when it was dark or stormy.
It uses radio waves to find objects over long distances.
