Tyne & Wear Museums are committed to producing accessible and usable on-line services. This site has been designed to be accessible and usable by the widest audience possible. Throughout the development of this site it has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 (WCAG 1.0) and the non-flash pages of this site comply with most priority 1 and 2 checkpoints.
To help ensure the interoperability of this site, it has been written using valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional markup. This means that we have taken every care to ensure that the markup of this site adheres to the W3C XHTML guidelines, and has been validated using the online W3C validator. Furthermore, to ensure the usability of this site it has been tested across multiple browsers and the Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) has also been written and validated against to the W3C guidelines.
Access Keys
Keyboard access is important for users who do not have the ability to use a pointing device (e.g. a mouse). Each of the areas of this website have been constructed to allow users to bind keyboard strokes to actions. To use Access Keys, follow this simple procedure (Please note: Netscape and Apple Macintosh machines do not understand the keyboard shortcut commands for linking):
- Press and hold the "alt" key.
- Press the corresponding letter or number for the page you want then release both keys.
- Press the "Return" key. The browser will redirect you to the page you requested.
